BLE Beacon TM

BEYOND CLOUD ACCESS, WE GRANT CONFIDENCE.

Introduction

The Millennium BLE Beacon was designed to bridge the gap between traditional Wiegand-based hardware and modern, encrypted mobile security. By shifting the “intelligence” of the credential from a physical plastic card to a secure mobile application, we eliminate common vulnerabilities like card cloning and credential sharing while providing a seamless, touchless entry experience.

The Triple-Layer Security Model

Unlike standard proximity readers that grant access based on a single static ID, the BLE Beacon system requires three distinct layers of validation before a door is ever triggered.

1. User Identity (at smartphone level)

The system utilizes the smartphone's built-in secure enclave (FaceID, TouchID, or encrypted passcode). This ensures that the person attempting to enter is the authorized user. If a phone is lost or stolen, the credential cannot be used by a third party, a significant security upgrade over traditional badges.

2. Physical Presence

The BLE Beacon unit at the door acts as a localized "handshake" device. It broadcasts a unique, rotating token via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). The mobile app must be within a defined range of the reader to allow the door unlock command. This provides cryptographic proof that the user is physically standing at the door, preventing "accidental" unlocks from a distance.

3. Mobile Token/Card Authorization

Ultra Mobile Credential application transfers the cardholder card token and the beacon token information to UMC Cloud. This information processed by cloud and transferred card information and command information to Ultra system, which controls the card access rights and sends command to Millennium hardware to process momentary door unlock command, if the card is valid.

Data Transmission & Encryption

We utilize high-level encryption standards to ensure that all data—whether moving through the air or over the network—is protected from interception.

Encryption in Transit:

All communication between the mobile device, Ultra UMC Cloud and Ultra system is secured using TLS 1.2/1.3.

Dynamic Tokens:

The system does not use static card numbers. Instead, it uses dynamic, encrypted tokens that rotate frequently. This architecture provides native protection against "Replay Attacks," where an intruder might attempt to capture and rebroadcast a signal.

Cloud-to-Hardware Command:

Once the Ultra UMC Cloud validates the user’s identity and proximity, a secure "Momentary Unlock" command is sent directly to the Ultra system and after to controller hardware. This keeps the decision-making logic off the local device and in a secure, audited environment.

Integration & Compliance

The BLE Beacon is a reader-agnostic solution. It interfaces directly with the existing Wiegand or OSDP infrastructure connected to the Ultra platform. This allows for a modern security overlay without requiring a full “rip and replace” of legacy hardware.

Key IT Benefits:

Instant Revocation:

Administrators can de-provision a user in real-time via the UMC Cloud.

Audit Logging:

Every entry attempt is logged with a timestamp, providing a clean audit trail for compliance reviews.

Hardware Security:

The BLE Beacon units are designed for high-integrity environments, providing a stable and secure bridge to the Ultra access control platform.

Future-Proofing & Technological Sustainability

Access control is shifting away from proprietary hardware toward software-defined security. The BLE Beacon architecture ensures your facility remains at the forefront of this transition through several key factors:

Hardware Decoupling (Reader Agnostic)

Because BLE Beacon is “reader-agnostic,” it removes the dependency on specific card-reading hardware. As physical reader technologies evolve or legacy formats (like 125kHz or Magstripe) become obsolete, the BLE Beacon layer continues to function. This prevents a “rip and replace” cycle, allowing the facility to update its software logic without replacing the physical infrastructure at every door.

Scalability with "Digital Forever Tokens"

The transition to digital credentials eliminates the logistical and environmental waste of physical plastic badges. As the workforce grows or changes, administrators can issue or revoke “Forever Tokens” instantly. This digital-first approach scales infinitely and accommodates modern workplace trends like hybrid schedules and hot-desking without the overhead of physical inventory management.

Integration with Emerging Smart Building Standards

By utilizing Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and high-performance chipsets, the BLE Beacon is prepared for future integrations with broader “Smart Building” ecosystems. The same infrastructure used for access control can eventually be leveraged for occupancy sensing, lighting automation, or emergency mustering protocols, maximizing the value of the initial hardware investment.
